“Trump: Let States Decide on Abortion, Except for Rape, Incest, and Mother’s Life…of course”
So, the man who famously said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose any voters has now decided to weigh in on the hot-button issue of abortion. Donald Trump, the man who can’t seem to make up his mind on anything, is now advocating for states to have the final say on reproductive rights.
In a shocking turn of events, Trump actually made a statement that made some sense (shocking, I know). He said, “I think it’s a state issue. I think it should be left up to the states. It’s always been a state issue. That’s the way it should be.” Wow, who would have thought that the man who can’t even decide on a hairstyle could have a coherent thought about states’ rights?
Of course, Trump couldn’t resist throwing in his usual nonsensical comments about exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. Because nothing says “I care about women’s rights” like making exceptions for situations that only make up a small percentage of abortion cases.
But hey, at least he’s consistent in his inconsistency. One day he’s pro-choice, the next day he’s pro-life, and now he’s pro-states’ rights. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Maybe he’ll decide that aliens built the pyramids or that windmills cause cancer. The possibilities are endless with this guy.
In all seriousness, though, Trump’s comments on abortion do have real consequences. With the Supreme Court set to hear a major abortion case in the coming months, the future of reproductive rights in the United States is more uncertain than ever. And leaving it up to individual states to decide could have disastrous effects on women, especially those in low-income and marginalized communities.
So, while we may laugh at Trump’s flip-flopping and nonsensical ramblings, the reality is that the fight for reproductive rights is no joke. It’s time to take a stand and make sure that women have the right to make decisions about their own bodies, no matter what the former reality TV star turned politician has to say about it. Let’s hope that common sense prevails over chaos and confusion.
