Trev Alberts: From All-American to Athletic Director – Nebraska to Texas AM!
So, here we go again with another big shot being named as the new director of athletics at Texas AM University. Mark A Welsh III has decided to shake things up by bringing in Trev Alberts, a former football player and ESPN analyst, to take the reins. Because, you know, what Texas AM really needs right now is someone who can talk a good game on TV.
Alberts, a former Nebraska Cornhusker, is apparently a big deal in the world of college sports. He’s been running the show at the University of Nebraska at Omaha for the past decade, overseeing the transition from Division II to Division I. Wow, what an accomplishment. I’m sure the folks at Texas AM are just thrilled to have someone with that kind of experience on board.
But let’s be real here, folks. Does anyone really care who the Athletic Director is at a school like Texas AM? I mean, sure, they’ve had some success in sports lately, but let’s not pretend like this is some kind of life-changing event. It’s not like they just discovered a cure for cancer or something.
And can we talk about these statements from the President of Texas AM, Michael K Young? “Trev’s passion for collegiate athletics and his track record of success make him the ideal candidate to lead our athletic department into the future.” Seriously? I’m pretty sure they could have hired a trained monkey and gotten the same results. But hey, at least they’re excited to welcome him to the Aggie family. I’m sure they’ll all be sitting around the dinner table, passing the mashed potatoes and talking about their favorite football plays.
In all seriousness, though, it’s nice to see someone with a background in sports taking on a leadership role at a university. Maybe Alberts will bring some fresh ideas and energy to the table. Or maybe he’ll just sit in his office, watching game tapes and eating Cheetos. Who knows?
One thing’s for sure, though. Texas AM better be ready for some changes with Alberts in charge. Whether those changes will be for the better or for the worse remains to be seen. But hey, at least it’ll give us something to talk about around the water cooler.
