“Steelers Sign Kyle Allen: Is Ben Roethlisberger’s Time Up?”
So, it looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers are playing quarterback musical chairs this offseason, adding Kyle Allen to their roster in a move that has left many scratching their heads. I mean, seriously, this guy has bounced around more than a beach ball at a Nickelback concert.
Quarterback Kyle Allen has had a whirlwind tour of the NFL, playing for more teams than I have exes in a six-year career. From Buffalo to Houston, Washington to Carolina, and now landing in Pittsburgh, Allen seems to have a knack for picking up and moving whenever the wind blows.
Now, the Steelers already have future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger as their starter and Mason Rudolph as his trusty backup (or punching bag, depending on who you ask). So, where does Kyle Allen fit into all of this? Is he just there to hold Roethlisberger’s Gatorade? Or is he actually going to see some playing time?
General manager Omar Khan confirmed the signing of Allen at the NFL’s annual league meeting in Orlando, where I can only assume the hot topic of conversation was, “What the heck are the Steelers doing with all these quarterbacks?” Khan must have nerves of steel to face the media and announce yet another addition to the QB room.
But hey, maybe Allen will surprise us all and light up the field like a Christmas tree. After all, stranger things have happened in the NFL (cough, Tim Tebow, cough). With a strong defense and talented skill position players, the Steelers are poised to make a comeback after a disappointing end to their last season. Maybe Allen is the missing piece to the puzzle. Or maybe he’s just there to keep the bench warm.
Either way, Steelers fans will be watching closely to see how this quarterback carousel plays out. Will Allen be the hero they never knew they needed? Or will he be just another name on the roster? Only time will tell.
